Clothes

I can’t afford to dress like the others. How can I have any self worth?  You’ll find the answer in the Bible in 1 Peter 3:3-4, TLB. “Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelry, or beautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God.”

Having just the perfect clothing can make us prideful.  But real beauty is not self centered.  Look in 1 Timothy 2:9-10, NIV.  “I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.”

The clothing that brings real happiness is of God.  Find out for yourself in Isaiah 61:10, TLB.  “Let me tell you how happy God has made me! For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and draped about me the robe of righteousness.”

How do I get this clothing from God?  By accepting Him as your personal Savior and being baptized as the Bible tells us. Look in Galatians 3:26-28, NIV. “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”

When I start thinking about those who need clothes and give to them, rather than focusing on my own wants, it is as if I gave to Jesus himself.  You’ll find it in the Bible in Matthew 25:36-38, 40, NIV.  “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'  "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
