Faith
What is faith? The Bible has the answer in Hebrews 11:1, TLB. "What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead."
Where do I get faith? The disciples also asked that question. You can find the answer that they discovered in the Bible in Luke 17:5, TLB. "One day the apostles said to the Lord, ‘We need more faith; tell us how to get it.’" Romans 10:17, NIV says, "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ." Every time you read the Bible you have the opportunity to believe what is written there. You will begin to believe or have more and more faith as time goes on.
In whom do I put my faith? Read the answer in Philippians 3:9, TLB. “Become one with Him, no longer counting on being saved by being good enough or by obeying God’s laws, but by trusting Christ to save me; for God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith-counting on Christ alone.”
If I do have faith in Christ, what will happen to me? Discover the answer in Romans 5:1, TLB. "So now, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with Him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us."
How do I live by faith? Let’s find out what the Bible has to say about that in Hebrews 10:38, TLB. "And those whose faith has made them good in God’s sight must live by faith, trusting Him in everything. Otherwise, if they shrink back, God will have no pleasure in them."
What if I don’t have very strong faith? Let’s see what another person said when he discovered that he needed to have more faith than he had. Look in Mark 9:24, TLB. "The father instantly replied, ‘I do have faith; oh, help me to have more!’" God wants us to be strong in our faith. When we feel like we just don’t have strong enough faith, we can ask God to give us more. He loves to answer that kind of prayer.
Are there any good examples in the Bible of people who had faith? Take a look at the book of Hebrews, chapter 11:3, TLB. “By faith - by believing God - we know that the world and the stars - in fact, all things - were made at God’s command; and that they were all made from things that can’t be seen.” Hebrews 11 is called the faith chapter. Abraham is called the father of those who have faith. It’s in the Bible in Romans 4:11, TLB. “Abraham is the spiritual father of those who believe and are saved. It mentions the faith of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Samuel and many others. Good stories to learn about those who God said had great faith.
How will these stories help me in my faith? Take a look at Hebrews 12:1, TLB, and see if you can find the answer. “Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us.
