Lying

What?s the big deal about lying? The ninth commandment forbids lying. You?ll find it in the Bible, Exodus 20:16, TLB. "You must not lie."

But what does it hurt me if I tell a lie? Look in Ephesians 4:25, TLB. "Stop lying to each other; tell the truth, for we are parts of each other and when we lie to each other we are hurting ourselves."

So what does God think of lying? God hates lying. It?s in the Bible, Proverbs 12:22, NIV. "The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in men who are truthful."

What does the Bible say will happen to those who lie? Liars are excluded from the presence of God. It?s in the Bible, Psalm 101:7, NIV. "No one who practices deceit will dwell in My house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in My presence."

Lying is not Christ like. It?s in the Bible, Colossians 3:9-10, NIV. "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

Is bragging considered lying? Look in the Bible in James 3:14, TLB. "And by all means don?t brag about being wise and good if you are bitter and jealous and selfish; that is the worst sort of lie."

We are liars if we claim to be Christians but don?t obey. It?s in the Bible, I John 2:4, TLB. "Someone may say, ?I am a Christian; I am on my way to heaven; I belong to Christ.? But if he doesn?t do what Christ tells him to, he is a liar."

Will those who lie be in the city of God? The Bible says the dishonest are not allowed in the city of God. You?ll find it in the Bible in Revelation 22:15, TLB. "Outside the city are those who have strayed away from God, and the sorcerers and the immoral and murderers and idolaters, and all who love to lie, and do so."

Is there any hope for me if I have told lies? God promises He will forgive. It?s in the Bible in I John 1:9, "But if we confess our sins to Him, He can be depended on to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.?
