Selfishness
Is selfishness really bad? Find out what happens to the person who might have all there is in this world, but still lose out. Check out Mark 8:36-37, TLB. "And how does a man benefit if he gains the whole world and loses his soul in the process? For is anything worth more than his soul?"
Can my prayers be selfish? It’s in the Bible, James 4:3, TLB. "And even when you do ask you don’t get it because your whole aim is wrong - -you want only what will give you pleasure."
Is there any help for me if I am selfish? God wants to help you. See Galatians 2:20, NIV. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Here is how God will help you to live: Philippians 2:3, TLB. “Don't be selfish; don't live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself.
Selfishness is at the heart of every kind of evil. See for yourself in James 3:16, TLB. “For wherever there is jealousy or selfish ambition, there will be disorder and every other kind of evil.”
What is unselfishness like? Find out a good description of an unselfish life in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. TLB. “Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.”
Jesus is the best example of an unselfish life. He has told us to follow his example. Look it up in Ephesians 5:2, TLB. “Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ…”
